Reduce the potential impacts of wildfire on your home. Taking action to FireSmart your property will dramatically decrease the risk of wildfire damaging your home. Here are some FireSmart tips and tools to get you started.

Tips to FireSmart Your Home
- Do a Self-Assessment or Request an Assessment.
- Remove combustible material from under decks. Keep a 1.5 meter non-combustible zone around the house and deck.
- Clean and maintain gutters and roofs. Keep decks and balconies clear of leaves and debris.
- Add non-combustible 3 mm screens to external vents (except dryer vents) to keep embers out.
- Keep grass and weeds cut below 10cm.
- Plant wildfire resistant vegetation to reduce flammability of your landscaping.
- Prune trees to create a 2 meter clearance from the ground.
- Move firewood at least 10 meters away from your home.
- Hold sheds and other structures to the same standards as your home.
- Have a wildfire evacuation plan for your household. Check out the FireSmart Wildfire Evacuation Checklist.
