TRAINING

Your Qualicum Beach firefighters have accredited training to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standard 1001. This is the standard for professional firefighters. We train weekly to keep our skills up to date, learn new techniques, and sharpen our current practices. As a fire rescue service, we are continuously learning on evolving technologies and issues.

We endeavour to use training that offers Pro Board certification for our firefighters. Listed below are a few of the courses and certifications our firefighters receive.

FIREFIGHTER CERTIFICATIONS

Training - Firefighter Certificates

Firefighters are continuously training to better serve the community. Along with the industry standard NFPA 1001, we have a Technical Rescue Team who are certified NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue and Confined Space Rescue technicians. Firefighters are given every opportunity to broaden their range of knowledge, by training with other leaders in the field at courses, conferences, and symposiums.

DRIVER/OPERATOR CERTIFICATIONS

Training - Driver Operator Certificates

Our apparatus operators are trained to Class 3 with air brakes endorsement, taking their ICBC licensing road test with our tandem 2700 IG water tender, Tender 53. Further training includes NFPA 1002 Emergency Operations and Driving, and the Aerial Strategies and Tactics course.

FIRE OFFICER CERTIFICATIONS

Training - Fire Officer Certificates

Fire Officers are the team leaders, their training delves further into aspects of organizational leadership and incident command. Fire Officers are trained to handle all events as the Incident Commander and regularly take Duty Officer shifts.
