FIRE PREVENTION

Qualicum Beach Fire Rescue holds an active role in fire prevention in the Town of Qualicum Beach. We take part in construction projects, giving input in the development process for items such as fire apparatus access or fire and life safety equipment installations. We ensure fire safety regulations are followed in the construction phase, and begin our pre-incident planning stages before the building is complete. Once a multi-unit residential building or commercial occupancy is occupied, they are inspected on a regular basis.

FIRE AND LIFE SAFETY INSPECTIONS

Fire Prevention - Fire and Life Safety Inspections

The Fire Services Act mandates that a municipal council must provide for a regular system of inspection of hotels and public buildings in the municipality. Commercial occupancies and multi-unit residential buildings are placed on a regular inspection rotation. Inspections are carried out in accordance with the Town bylaws, the BC Fire Code, and referenced standards such as the NFPA. New businesses require an initial fire and life safety inspection prior to being assigned a business license. Regular inspections are another way we stay involved in the community.

PRE-INCIDENT PLANNING

Fire Prevention - Pre Incident Plans

We maintain pre-incident plans for all major occupancies in the Qualicum Beach Fire Protection area. Should an incident arise, these pre-made plans provide firefighters on scene with additional knowledge on building construction, utilities, floorplans, staging locations, predicted fire behaviour, and more. Regular inspection rotations help us keep these plans up to date. The pre-incident plans are one of the many ways we prepare for the unexpected.
